One of the most common aesthetic concerns as we age is that the skin and fat of our lower face start to drop, forming what’s sometimes known as jowls. These jowls are mainly due to a natural loss of collagen and elasticity of the skin which leads the fat to descend past the jawline, interrupting the defined contour that may have been there prior.

The primary non-surgical treatment for the ageing jawline (jowls) is using fillers to achieve an indirect lift (non-surgical facelift) or by using a more direct approach to improve the contour of the jawline.

The direct approach, appropriate in some mild cases, is where we place filler directly into the jawline to recontour and smooth the jawline. In select cases, this can be a very effective method of disguising the jowls.

The alternative and more holistic full-face approach is achieving indirect lift through a liquid facelift (link to non surgical facelift). We place filler in precise, strategic points further back and higher in the face which not only rejuvenates those areas by restoring areas that have had volume loss through the ageing process but also achieves a lift of the jawline. This is sometimes referred to as a non-surgical facelift or a liquid facelift due to the impressive results that can be achieved.

Can jowl filler work for men?
Chin and jawline filler is one of the most popular male treatment requests that we get at Dr Kane Aesthetics Co. Some men naturally have heavier jowls or a weaker jawline which can make the face look less masculine or aged. Will jowl filler treatment hurt?
This area is not usually sensitive. In addition Dr Kane has developed a number of methods to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Numbing cream Is used as well as potentially injecting a small amount of numbing agent into the area to make the procedure as comfortable as possible.
What is the downtime to jowl filler?
There is no specific downtime to the procedure itself. Although daily activities are not prohibited, jowl filler can however contribute to some minor swelling and tenderness for up to a week post treatment.
How long will jowl filler last?
At Dr Andrew’s Newcastle Cosmetic clinic we use the premium fillers of the Juvederm Vycross range. This means that the results of the treatment will last approximately 12 months
